"Ashes in the Snow" is a visceral, first-person journey through the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, told through the eyes of a young conscript transformed by the brutal reality of war. Beginning with the 2022 invasion, the story follows his rise from a patriotic teenager to the leader of an elite off-the-books Ukrainian unit operating deep behind enemy lines. As he navigates real historical battles, like the defence of Bakhmut and the Kharkiv counteroffensive, he confronts war crimes, psychological warfare, and the devastating human cost of resistance. Amid the rubble, he begins to forge a path not just for survival, but for renewal. Grounded in real events and shaped by fictionalized special operations, Ash and Silence is a powerful reflection on what war takes, and what it means to hope again.
I was inspired to write this book after following the war since the moments before the invasion. See the war crimes, the lazy politics, the death and destruction of good people keeping to themselves.
I will be donating a copy of my manuscript to Ukraine to dispatch to their soldiers and civilians. I am also going to be donating more than 20% of any profits to Ukraine.
